Welcome to our web page. Here is where you will find out what's happening in the sport of Squash in our corner of Canada, namely Northwestern Ontario. Squash Ontario breaks Ontario into 9 regions, our region being referred to as the Northwestern Region and it extends from Wawa in the East to Red Lake in the West. In that rather large expanse of geography, you will find 18 courts, located mostly in the local Recreation Centres. In Thunder Bay, we have 4 in our local municipally run Canada Games Complex, 3 courts in the Confederation College Fitness Centre, and one in the Frank Murphy Community Centre.
The Thunder Bay Squash community includes 2 squash leagues, (more information of which can be found on our "Leagues" link), which consist of 36 players each, plus spares. We also have many active players not involved with either league so for a city our size, we have a fairly active squash community. Within our season (September to April) we typically have 3 city tournaments, while each facility hosts their own club championship.
In March of 2008, the Nor'Westers Squash Ladder launched.
This is a city wide ladder with the organizer hoping to encourage summertime play with its timing and to encourage common rankings and play amongst the diversity of the city's players. Please visit the web page for more information and to sign up!

Juniors...Juniors...Juniors !
Wow!! Where have all the juniors come from?? In the last couple of seasons, we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of juniors in the Canada Games Complex Junior Development program, which runs Saturday mornings. If we can keep these young players interested in the sport, our future looks great !! As many of you know from experience (since you are here at this page) starting out is the hardest thing to do in squash. That little ball, being resistant to bouncing at first, can make the first few times on court frustrating, but as we have all learned, once we are able to hit the little guy, then the thrill of the game takes over and we soon look forward to our next opportunity to get on court.

Although this page is titled the Thunder Bay Squash Association, we would be negligent in not mentioning that the Fort Frances squash community (Sunset Squash Club) has had an active junior program going for many years and now Kenora has developed one. Other towns/cities with Squash Courts are Red Lake, Dryden, Terrace Bay, Wawa, and Kapuskasing. Please check them out if you are in the area. For contact information, please check out our "Where to Play" Link.
Please help us to keep this page current and active. If you would like to have something added, please let the association know here, Info now or through our Contact Us link.
